Re: C&O track chart

Eric, is this chart in a place that the public can see it? That would be really cool to look at. I found something similar in St Joe- an old aerial photo of St. Joseph, showing the old rail lines and the harbor, the old road bridge, etc, in the city's fire station. Answered lots of my questions abou...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.

Other notes to the NNYCRR Museum Roster: NNYX 902, the three bay covered hopper, was LCEX 902, donated by Lonestar Cement. Also there used to be an ex-NYC boom car that went with the X-28 Crane. It was a wood sided car, possibly a gondola, with a a small cabin on it. It held water tanks and piping t...

Former EL RPO. Off the rails but still on trucks and used by locals to conduct activities related to unlicensed pharmaceutical transactions and an unsanctioned homeless shelter and a place for persons to offer adult entertainment activities. (Read crackhouse, bum camp and whorehouse.) The thing has ...

Re: Train v. Pedestrian

I could possibly be wrong on the time as I was working on a seperate, non-railroad incident when it occured, but the inital reports I got were putting it around 2200. Could have happened earlier, and maybe the units were clearing the scene around 2200.

Re: Crude oil being "transported in a shroud of secrecy"

I agree with the statements that people were making about the risk oil trains. Many far worse things travel by rail. A tank car of crude scares me less than one of LPG or chlorine, and I would be one of the people that would be responding to the accident. From my personal experience, most railroads ...

Train v. Pedestrian

There was a train vs. pedestrian on CSX. Happened at Lake St. in Bridgman around 2200. This was during the Bridgman street dance. Details have not been released publicly on the victim's age, gender, condition, or possible contributing factors.

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming

Today, the rails are up to just East of Lawrence. Looks like the company is Jaeger Railroad Salvage out of Byron Center. I had never heard of the company before and it does not look like they have a website, but I would imagine they might be a source for harder to find track parts. The crew was very...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.

American locomotive crane was working with a tamper, ballast regulator, CAT front-end loader and several MOW trucks on what appeared to be panel switch work at the West end of the yard yesterday. Also there are now two black American cranes in the yard: the usual one with a PRR idler flat, and one w...

Shame to see it rotting away. I doubt anyone will do anything with it before it falls down with how much it seems to have deteriorated already. I see the coaling tower is still there too.

Re: Elkhart, Ind.

Was that track gang laying rail were you saw this at the fuel pad?
It almost looked like tie replacement based on the machinery I saw and what I have seen it used for in the past, but I didn't get too good of a look. Definately a lot of orange MOW equipment though.

Re: Former triple decker bridge Niles, MI

I would concur that the interburban in the pic is the St. Joe-South Bend run. The bridge piers are still there in Berrien Springs, and probably won't be leaving any time soon. The bridge in the picture here seems like it would be on the route, and the equipment looks the same as the pictures I have ...

Chessie Safety Express comes to Michigan!!!

So this is slightly outdated, as the train came in 1981, but I found a flyer from trip in a hobby shop. I scanned it and uploaded it here: http://railroadfan.com/gallery/index-12258.html . Not only does it talk about the locomotive, and list every car assigned to the train that year, and have some i...

Re: Elkhart, Ind.

Saw a track gang working just east of the fuel pad in the yard in the area of the SR 19 bridge yesterday. Also an American Crane at work in the yard lifting something, and what appeared to be 2 different welded rail trains on the West end of the yard where the MOW stuff usually parks.

Re: NNYCRR Museum- Mainline Access?

I know one of the ideas discussed years ago was lengthening the museum siding and installing a new switch off the NS to allow NS to store cars on the museum track more easily (think MOW tie gons, or similar cars). In addition to the equipment the museum has had shipped by rail, I know the Indiana Hi...

NNYCRR Museum- Mainline Access?

Does anyone know if the NNYC Museum in Elkhart stil has a connection with NS? I know they used to when I volunteered years ago, but the latest google maps birds-eye view makes it look like the track is gone between the museum's back gate and the siding that comes off of NS. I know the track was in p...
