Re: Indiana Northeastern Coldwater - Sturgis Abandonment fil
I'm not sure what the "railfan point of view" is, but it's not the narrowest point of view I've seen on this issue as a local resident and member of the business community. I certainly don't consider myself a railfan, never having even noticed trains until I noticed local rail activity and its impor...

Hope all passengers and employees are okay.
What a useless news story. Even all the Twitter has no information at all about what happened. Shocker.

Where and what time is this meeting? There have been several already but they are not well publicized. I will definitely be there.

What a useless news article. It sounds like a car and a train collided in the middle of an intersection. And then the train "left the scene". Geez.

Re: Train vs truck. On GLC south board man
In Michigan, each person pays for their own damage...not the "it's your fault, so fix it" rule. Michigan is a "no fault" state. Insurance companies "subrogate" after the fact, which means the money to repair your car and pay bills etc, comes from the at-fault driver's policy. Some people misinterpr...

I can't even imagine what railroads pay for insurance. However, since they are never at fault in grade crossing accidents hopefully this all gets piled on the driver's insurance.CAT345C wrote: It was prolly cheaper too but I would think insurance covers it.

Penalty should be the same as for driving onto an active runway. Federal stuff.tadman wrote:I've always said there should be strict liability laws about train-car accidents. $5,000 fine, night in jail, or loss of license, take your pick.

Re: Amtrak cutting the Hoosier State?
I don't want to HAVE to drive, and flying would be pointless... Practice Safe CSX Flying Sucks. And costs a whole lot more to "subsidize". As long as fuel is relatively affordable we'll keep driving... the market keeps testing us with higher and higher fuel prices. Yesterday people scrambled to lin...

Re: Ann Arbor Railroad vs Car in Ann Arbor
Short of a medical emergency there is just no excuse. Can't blame road conditions, if you can't stop before running into the side of a train its YOUR fault for driving to fast. The advance RR signs give you plenty of warning to slow down. A medical emergency is no excuse for running into the side o...

“A train was on the tracks, and she basically drove right into the train,” Fox said. No one on the train, believed to be a freight train, noticed the crash and the train proceeded on its way, Fox said.

Several State agencies are currently looking at options for keeping this line intact. Local leaders also do not want to see the line gone (even though they don't support its use as a trail). Everyone I've spoken with understands that money would be needed to rebuild the line for use (and Steuben Cou...
