Geeze. I had no idea that the train would derail when I saw it. I recognize most of those derailed cars as common cars up here.

And the 126 car train was almost all stone, with a few flyash mixed in.

Hmmm, the Walmart bypass still looked brand new in July. Anyway, the derailment happened South of Walmart, almost in front of the firehouse and right near the Holliday Inn.

Thanks,

Zack, the spot, like a lot of places in Tawas, is a very senic spot to watch trains. Unfortunately, most trains pass through between Midnight and 2 am, therefore scenery doesn't matter a whole lot when its pitch black out.

Thanks,

I drove through Tawas yesterday, and saw the 381 and the 3571 with cars behind it. I had my old camera, and very very little time, so the pictures arn't very good, but they are something. It appears that because of the two derailments, the LSRC has been improving the track all throughout the town. H...

The cell phone part is true for the Northern Portion at least. Maybe not for yard jobs, but at least for the road freights. Below is a photo of the engineer on the cell phone. I'll look through my pictures and see if I have a picture that shows it better, but until now, this will have to do: http://...

Caught a late Lake State train 326 tonight with the 3571, 381, and ~50 cars. I am still working on taking "night" pictures, so these arn't the greatest, but they'll do. Anybody know what the blue stuff is in the first picture? http://www.railroadfan.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10204/normal_IMG_2757....

I had some free time this morning, so I decided to go down to the Lake State Yard. As I drove by the yard, I noticed that the 381 was in the shops, the 975 was one yard track over (281 still there), but other than that, nothing was different. The 469 was still sitting in the yard, and in the yard, t...

Great Lake State Update!

Hope is on the horizon, Patrick! I went to the yard today (sunday), and what do I find? The 1195 was gone (in the shops most likely), the 975 was coupled to 281 on the right roundhouse track, with part of its long hood removed, and the 3504 was back into the hoist spot! The only unit left in the dea...

I don't know anything about the radio channels they use (mainly because I don't own a scanner), but the CTC system (I heard) was taken out of service. Also, the Lake State Leased the line from CSX. Hope that helps clear numbers 1&4 up. LSRC Oh, and Gregg, I will be looking for those pictures (If you...

A "little" bit of Lake State Action tonight

Unable to catch the train last night (I hear it was the 3571, 281, and maybe 60 cars), I decided to catch the train tonight. Much to my surprise, was the following consist: M420W 3563 M420W 798 19 cars. That has to be the shortest 326 that I have seen in a long while. 5 flyash cars though. I got the...

Hmmm. I like the 371 horn. Do you think that they will keep it white, or paint it black. Or did they order it in black. Hmmmm. As for the 3504. If they don't redo the stripe, its not the end of the world. What would you rather see, the unit in the dead line waiting to get repainted, or on the road, ...

Any more news from the derailment? That doesn't surprise me much. Track conditions have always been pretty poor in the downtown Tawas area. I hope nobody was injured. The track has been bad in Tawas everywhere BESIDES the new Walmart bypass. That track still looks brand new. Like in Bay City, you c...

The 326 or the 327? I ask this because there is a mix of power sitting in the right over the weekend.
