Modeling the Hamilton Trestle in HO Scale

After dabbling in model timber trestle construction throughout the first couple months of 2020, I decided to jump in head-first on an ambitious project: replicating the Hamilton Trestle in HO Scale. After all, what else were we to do in April and May of this year?  Once the halfway point...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates, September 2020

Per the Lansing-area scanner feed, D705 “all lined and locked back normal” reported to the Dispatcher, which I presume means he’s done with his work at Ensel, and the timing matches up nicely with what should be expected.

I think I’ll go find him :)

Re: CSX Train Location Updates, September 2020

V834 grain empty with 90 cars went west by Howell at 15:05. CSX 103+598 on the head end. Must have gone to Grand Ledge or would have heard it as Williamston by now as it ran around its train. Train may have been V874. GLC with 396+390+329 was over on CSX at 13:00 to pick up the split crossing 84 ca...

Thanks. Where on MS did they originate? Who uses or generates ash?
From the now-demolished BC Cobb Coal-Fired Power Plant in Muskegon. They're mining out the bottom ash pits for environmental remediation.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates, September 2020

Anyone hear anything on K862? Scanner is pretty quiet for them. Prior trains have needed Helpers or DPU to climb Saugatuck, so I assume that is still true now. Even with 3 headend units, if that makes them good in HP/ton, they still need something to get trailing unaided tonnage below 10,000 per sy...

Re: September Shortlines Updates

It is quite odd, had a majority of fly ash gons with a few tanks and 2bays. I bet Q327 will pick them up tomorrow. Perhaps they are considering going back to a nocturnal schedule. This way, these cars will be on Q327 tomorrow. If they come down Monday, they won't go until Tuesday's Q327. Typically,...

Re: CSX Montague Subdivision History

Primary industry for many years were the two chemical plants on the north side of Montague. Once that traffic dried up, the rails were pulled in fairly short order.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates, September 2020

14:08: Q326 is arriving Holland, will work the setout off the main at Waverly. Meanwhile, D801 was on duty at 13:00, and will be bringing empties south from the plant. My educated guess is that they’ll take the empties to Wells, then head down to Grand Junction to collect the loads there.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates, September 2020

MQT Z151 arriving at Wyoming with around two dozen mixed for CSX. Rouge Tower wasn’t aware that they’re running today so doesn’t have all of the Marquette-bound traffic worked, but there are 35 to pickup it sounds like. I guess we’ll see. Supposedly D705/706 was supposed to start today...did either ...

Re: Plymouth Sub Grand Rapids and other lines

Heard a conversation today between Q326-04 & Q327-04 saying beginning this Saturday Sept 5th at 1:00am CSX will start running trains designated as "Yard Trains" and in their words "they'll be calling them Yard Trains but they're going to be doing what Q328 & Q329 used to do". There was no mention a...
