Re: CTC Machine "Moving Day" 1984

In today's world with computer assisted "on screen" dispatching, I suppose such a move would be a piece of cake! I know at least two Class Ones keep full backup capability at one or multiple other sites in case of a main dispatching location failure. Theoretically, I believe, just about any compute...

Re: Could this affect rail shipments in Michiana?

120,000 lbs certainly isn’t the 160,000 lbs that Michigan has. I doubt it’ll change all that much, since it isn’t a huge increase and most users are local like farmers and construction. Not much Michigan to Indiana rail traffic to poach...most of what there is has too much volume to be effective for...

Re: Great Lakes Central Passenger TC

If you drive your electric car from metro Detroit to Traverse City you will have a dead battery by the time you get there, if you make it. Assuming you arrive at your destination on one charge you will be stuck there for hours until the car can recharge. Not what tourists want. Recharging times are...

MDOT screwed themselves over by selling the F59 to Metrolink and then they got rid of it... I wonder if they can get the two MP36's MBTA barely use...
MDOT never owned that engine. The company that prepared it put the cart before the horse.

just finished reading todays posts, esp. concerning todays 370 pickup of dead 371 at east saugatuck. Agreed. While at first glance it might seem contrived, it was actually likely the best solution given the limited resources available and the weather. Nobody likes it when Amtrak provides busstituti...

And back "in the day" potash trains came from Florida's Bone Valley. Now they come from Sasketchewan for the most part. We took one LIME train up from Plymouth...I had requested pushers from The Chief before we left Walbridge...we climbed through Salem at a slow walk for MILES. Had two U30C pigs th...

Rumor is G&W won't renew their contracts for the MQT or the MS in 2024, anyone else hear this?
3 years is an awful long horizon to have that made as a firm decision.

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - February 2021

The east bound signal at vine (92) and westbound at Stevensville (95) are on, so that is one of the blocks that Q326 left on. Guessing it’s more than likely from the cold temps and ice/soft, white, fluffy stuff. Track Inspector @ 1:51pm reported to Dispatch he had inspected the track from mp CG95 t...

Re: CSX Rail Grinder questions

If the dispatcher is not lining signals for the grinders would the dispatcher be able to line up switches, or would someone on the ground have to do that manually? I don't know about the signal circuits, but both grinders were activating the crossing gates normally. However they control things, the...
