Re: CSX says no!
Are school children, who may venture onto the tracks for many, many innocent reasons, to be declared terrorists? Are housewives who may use the tracks as a shortcut to the grocery store to be prosecuted as criminal? There is no innocent reason to be on the tracks other than to cross them at a desig...

Re: Politics
It is a shame that the thread itself wasn't saved. To hockysticks with the politics ... talking about how people have adjusted their railfanning due to the economy should be possible without people trashing the thread.

Re: Cost of Railfannings High and going up!
Geez.......I like trains........peace and love everyone! I do too. The year I spent unemployed got in the way of me chasing trains as much as I wanted to. Plenty of time to go out between begging for interviews but gas costs money. Even now I'm employed the least favorite part of any railfan trip i...

A mixed up story ... did he fall from a vestibule or the locomotive? I suppose we won't get the straight story.
I didn't know the circus was passing through.

Re: Fatal train vs pedestrian incident in Hartford
Lest we forget that if in fact it was suicide, this person chose not only one of the messiest ways to go, but in turn took the train crew with her. I can't think of a way of committing suicide that doesn't leave a body somewhere. Impaired people do a lot of stupid things not understanding where the...

Re: Surprise Rail Work Causing Headaches in Stevensville.
Would it have killed the railroad to put up signs in advance saying "this crossing will be closed xx to xx"? People shouldn't have to read tea leaves and guess that which crossings will be closed when. Hopefully the railroad gave emergency services some advance notice and left enough crossings open ...

Re: CSX says no!
Network Rail (the government authority who owns & maintains the rails) has to keep them well maintained as well. While not always a 6ft Steel Cyclone fence, in urban areas they often have various climber derterants on them. So your idea isn't that preposterous. http://www.networkrail.co.uk/aspx/101...

Re: stainless passenger car in transit on truck
... South Shore cars ... Not exactly light weight. While there have been a couple of flatbed moves over the past few years (line car 1100 to IRM and car 11 to MTM), the last five cars moved were done via rail (East Chicago to East Troy). For single or fragile cars it is likely better to put it on a...

Re: CSX says no!
Here is a shot of a westbound Amtrak barreling through Livernois yard. Where else can you get this close? The shot was taken from John Kronk street and I was standing about two feet on railroad property. I believe you've answered the question yourself. You could have got that shot from two feet fur...

Re: CSX says no!
I will never tell a rail cop again that I'm watching trains. That puts me in his area of concern. As soon as one appears, I'll whip out the cellphone. "Yes officer. I pulled over to be safe making a cellphone call. I don't drive and talk on the phone. This is a public street, and I'm conducting mys...

Re: CSX says no!
What if the cop just decides to arrest you right on the spot....don't you forfeit any rights you have? Other than the hassle factor, being arrested might be the best outcome. Then there would be a solid record of the officer's actions. Without the arrest there is just the hassle and personal proper...

9.2 miles with grade crossings from Kirk to Griffith ... slightly longer after the planned realignment for the airport. But it is double tracked.CSX_CO wrote:Granted, Stanley is right at the mainlines, whereas Kirk is a bit of a poke from the former GTW.

Re: CN bringing jobs to Gary Indiana
It is an odd location for a rail yard. The CN mains are several miles south and trains have to do a wide swing (soon to be a wider swing as the track is relocated) around the Gary Airport to enter the yard - then leave on the same tracks that they came in on (unless they interchange with NS or CSX)....

Re: Failroadtracks.com video
Looking at it using the historical photos available in Google Earth it appears that a single track a half block south was moved north to join existing tracks at W South Temple. A double track ended just east of the crossing. With the reconfiguration (between 2007 an 2009) the single track was pushed...

Re: Failroadtracks.com video
Why is everyone assuming there are no "rough crossing" warning signs already posted approaching this crossing? Everyone except the "railroad is always right" apologists who assume that the speed limit is 10 MPH and there are plenty of signs. I get the feeling that some in this thread could watch a ...

Re: Failroadtracks.com video
It already has plenty of signage. They're called railroad crossing warning signs. It's the driver's responsibility to make sure they're driving appropriately and using caution with unfamiliar locations is part of that. There needs to be MORE than a simple set of railroad crossing warning signs. Tho...

Re: Is Durand Union Station haunted?
I myself questioned the whole ghost/haunting thing for years until I caught "something" in a pic I took while visiting the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder in Mansfield Missouri back in April. I sent it into a website that eventually posted the shot on their website so who knows. http://angelsghosts.co...

Re: Is Durand Union Station haunted?
When I was there in May, there was an older gentleman upstairs who appeared to be carrying on a conversation with either himself or someone wasn't there. He later was outside walking around still talking intently to someone or himself. Maybe he has mental issues or was talking to the "ghost." "Blue...

Re: DURAND PLANS!
I see your point, but think about most of the people who use that bridge in St. Joe. It's in a very low traffic area, and most of the people who tend to use it are joggers, hikers, etc...not your typical riff raff who would be likely to drop something on a train. In Durand, everyone and their broth...
