Question for Raildudes dad.
With the recent projects expanding US-131 to 4-lane divided X-way, ( Constantine, Manton, etc.) I was wondering about that abandoned stretch near Kalkaska. Namely, the one-time 4-lane divided roadway that was plowed over some 20-40 years ago. I was just wondering if you thought it would make sense t...

Re: BO Tower in Kalamazoo
I was travelling Amtrak thanksgiving day, went through KZOO, and can say with all certainty that BO is still alive and kicking! Although, the operators apparently are no longer required to come out and do a "Roll-By"..

Re: Old GTW spur in Battle Creek
OK BC trainfan, Most of your assumptions are correct. The "OLD MAIN" (Single track) , Did continue straight west from Upton Ave. At a point just east of 20th street the "Airport Spur" angled a bit southwest, crossing Dickman road at a point near 24th st. The Airport spur was put in around 1940, when...

Re: Erie Lackawanna E-8 shells wanted...
Thanks for the reply TW, yes, I am looking for factory paint EL shells because it is such a difficult paint scheme to try to do with masking and decals. I can't understand why Walthers/LifeLike never made any EL E units.. Erie Lackawanna ran them in freight service right up to C-Day. And you can't a...

Re: WATCO Makes Investment in GLC
Jim, I'm not familiar with the term "preffered equity", So I'll not comment on that. I will say however, that it seems that maintaining 100+ miles of track for 4-to-8 cars a week seems a bit much. Even if the state is picking up the tab. I CERTAINLY don't want to see any more rail abandonments here ...

Re: West Michigan RR Abandonment Petition Coming
Just so I'm in clear understanding, Who actually owns this trackage? The State?, or CSX? Or otherwise? I HATE to see rail lines abandoned, but I have seen this trackage in recent years, and I don't see much hope here.. I don't think it would support a HI-RAIL vehicle, let alone a lightly loaded 40 f...

CAB OF TURBOLINER....... MAN, that hurts!!!! I remember when those were brand-spanking new. They were really nice to ride, and I LOVED the smell when they went by.... Smelled like fifty families firing-up their charcoal grills all at once! Yes, they WERE DIFFERENT, But they were So COOL! P.S. I bet ...

I realize this is a "long-shot", but I am looking for 2-or-3 Erie Lackawanna E-8 shells. Prefrerably Proto 2K, but not sure if they ever made that scheme. ... Might be able to work with Rivarossi,, but not sure about that. Let me know what you have...

Just southwest of Butler Indiana, around 1983 or so, on the old "Wabash/PRR Eel river line.( abandoned grade). There was an old semaphore in the middle of a farmers field.... Still displaying "approach". I bet money it's gone now...

I spent some time replying to this question about a half an hour ago, but for some reason it got toasted between the post button, and the rest of you all. I'll be glad to answer any Battle Creek RR history Q's, and for those that might be in the area, I'd be willing to give a guided tour as well. So...

Ties dropped along the MC line Kzoo-BC
On the way back from the swap in the zoo saturday we saw lots of new ties placed along the tracks. Looks like the much needed rehab will take place soon. None too soon either.... I noticed lots of low spots, and mud-pumps on what is supposed to be a 79 mph line. Let's hope for 110 pretty soon!

I was there, met you guys, met some more guys, and spent too much money!!! LOL. Actually, good show for Kzoo. Aaron picked up more than he had planned as well. So I guess I don't feel too guilty. BTW, one of the P2K engines I picked up has the infamous axle gear problem. Does Walthers still send fre...

Re: ANN ARBOR / GTW HO
Hi Ben, I just revisited this thread today, To answer your question, yes, I did pattern my shops area after the Battle Creek shops. Didn't get it 100%, but with the limited space I had, I thought I pulled it off pretty good. As for the depot, It is a Life-Like box kit that I tried to simulate the ol...
