Re: CSX Lansing locals
After the trains are recrewed they will change them from a 7 to 9 but I have no idea the purpose. I remember hearing the RN talking a while ago to a crew about a rule change regarding taking over track warrants from one train to another. Not sure if that's related in any way.

711 & 712 also pass through bc (coal for Lansing). I've also seen 118 and 119 through here in the last few months (intermodal with dpu). You may see 502 down there as well. Does anyone know what train 116's traffic goes west on?

Re: Lansing's "Snow Yard"?
What you said about the coal. CN to Snow then the local will shuttle them 20 or so loads at a time down town. Once there's enough empties in Snow CN will build a train there and send it back. Fuel for the plant on the west side of town comes right to that plant and the empty trains get built out of ...

Re: Lansing's "Snow Yard"?
That old drive-in is a Freightliner dealer now. There is an old crane back in the brush between purina and where Snow Yard widens out that looks to be an interesting relic. I'm not much for trespassing or I'd have poked around it by now. 5936 is the unit that's been around for local power the last c...

Re: New CN Customer in Lansing
Reith is on Creyts Rd. They expanded a year or three ago to the north, my guess is that's the property to the north being referred to. It's oil storage somehow related to Reith but operated separately. When construction first started the word around the plant was that the tanks would be fed by oil b...

Re: Grand Ledge MI feed
fyi for anyone who listens to my feed... I bought a house near 204 on CN. The feed may be down for a day or three while I move the equipment. Reception will be degraded for the time being. As time, money and weather allows I will change and add to the new installation to optimize reception of both c...

Re: 2 Mile Train at Durand
12,000' trains are common from what I've seen on the Flint Sub. At least west of Lansing. I've even heard trains give their mark up leaving Cory Yard at over 13k'. I've also heard axle counts over a thousand on rare occasion most likely due to detours. My youtube channel has a number of these trains...

Re: CSX Plymouth Sub Top 10 Longest Trains (190+ cars)
I heard 334 & 335 talking as they passed in Lansing tonight and they said the Chicago cars are a thing of the past. Not sure when the actual cut off was. It was nice to see some long trains through here though. I have video of a number of them preserved on my YouTube channel. Kc8rbk73 for anyone int...

Here is a web site some of you might find useful/interesting. It gives a real time depiction of where radio signals are flowing outside the normal travel. Last night there was a large band opening to the south east represented by a large red blob.

Re: Grand Ledge MI feed
Yesterday I installed two 4 element yagi antennas at about 40'. One is beaming across Ensel Yard towards the DD at 232 on CN. The other down the Plymouth Sub in hopes of hearing the 79.9. I heard the 232 last night although its still a little rough. This morning I heard 335 calling signals for at le...

Re: Grand Ledge MI feed
This is my feed. I was having a little issue losing connection to the server but I think I've got that cleared up now. On nights we're having band openings I have been hearing CSX dispatching trains around Garrett. The DD at 232 and 79.9 have been a rough copy lately but I'm trying to figure somethi...

Re: Railfan hotspots in a day's drive
You might check out Waterloo, In. I make it there once a month or so. Its a small town with an Amtrak station so no one seems to be bothered by you waiting around. I've never been questioned by the police there. Even when spending the entire night. There are several crossings spaced through town so ...

Re: Scanner Help
A higher gain antenna, even used indoors, will make a huge difference in what you can hear. Until I put an antenna on my chimney I used an outdoor discone antenna inside my house. Changing from the small metal telescoping antenna to that added at least fifteen miles to my range.

NS Virginian Herritage Unit
I just noticed the Virginian sitting in Ft. Wayne near Marketplace and 930. When I saw it it was leading three units facing west and stationary. I didn't notice what type of train he had. 1500 Eastern roughly. Happy railfanning

Re: GLLX gp18 921
I only caught a little of the conversation between the outgoing crew on 931, G010 and the dispatcher while I was doing other things. I remembered this post and thought maybe I could give him a heads up they might be using the engine. I thought with an odd train number they'd be coming in from Ohio. ...
