Re: SD70ACe Fan's future project

Best of luck to you. I'm 8 months in on my NS Elkhart to Goshen IN layout. All I've gotten done is the benchwork and most of the track on the lower level staging yard. Time and money are a constant issue. Have a vision and keep it, that's the only way you'll get done.

Re: Train vs Semi in Mishawaka (train wins)

I live about a mile from where this happened. Traffic regularly backs up across the intersection. It is worse if another train has recently come through on the other track.

Re: CN South Bend

CN doesn't have any customers in South Bend that I am aware of. As I understand the operations, the local works south from Battle Creek to South Bend and then returns the following day. There are numerous customers in the Granger and Edwardsburg area.

Re: Say goodbye to the CTC on Watco north of Elkhart.

Went along Grand Elk from White Pigeon to Elkhart today and the signals at Vistula and Bristol were off. There was a NS engine on the siding near the Andersons facility and a high rail truck on the main between Vistuala and Bristol.

Re: CP 421 Upgrade

Well, the elimination of the diamond , plus moving all the swiches off the curve, plus connecting coach track to main 3( used to be the siding east of there) will pretty much cover everything being changed. I am working on this area for my HO scale layout and making that diamond on a curve track is...

Re: WYOMING YARD CHANGES

All the old freight cars and caboose were sent to storage on the CIND in southern Indiana. That is significant because CSX is now paying to move and store cars on a another railroad instead of keeping them where they were for free in a time of reducing costs. I think there may be a lease or sale of ...

On Monday every crossing from Elkhart yard (Ash Rd) to Oakside Ave in Mishawaka was closed during evening rush hours. Emergency vehicles and school buses had to make 10-15 mile detours. There were little or no notifications and no detour signs.

NS uses foreign power all the time. Probably nothing more than normal traffic. The coal trains do run occasionally up the branch.

According to the article this funding is for restoration of the building which is the former NYC freight house. The new funding does nothing for restoration of the 3001 or any other equipment at the museum. An improved building may draw more people, but it still won't be enough to make the museum se...

Re: Hesston Steam Museum

They did tell me they don't operate the shay when it rains. Some of the grades there are fairly extreme and their shay is a wood burner. Steep grades + wet wood + lower temps for steam generation = a potential for a stalled train.

I took my kids 7 times over the last 3 years and we finally saw they shay and rode behind it during the steam and power show this past Labor Day weekend. It is definitely hit and miss, but they usually run it for the special event weekends.
