Re: Amtrak Train Location Update/Heads Up Thread 2024
NS put cars on the ground at CP485 (Burns Harbor) overnight and as a result Amtrak cancelled all scheduled Michigan service today except trains 355/354 so far. 29 and 49 may be detouring around, I’m not sure.

Re: Amtrak Train Location Update/Heads Up Thread 2024
Genesis 144, powering Capitol Limited train 29, suffered a mechanical failure near Waterloo this morning. Train 49 was on time a ways behind them and the decision was made to rescue 29 by coupling it to the rear of 49 to haul it in to Chicago. You can see the combined consist on the Elkhart VR cam o...

Re: Michigan Central Railroad Bay City Branch question
The MCRR Indian Lake Road stone arch bridge near Lake Orion was built in 1891 but is believed to be a replacement for an earlier wooden structure. The railroad history area of Michiganrailroads.com has a great timeline feature year-by-year that covers the construction of most lines across the state....

Question for the Lake State fans: on the Wiki train 327 originates at “Pinconning Terminal.” What and where is this? I thought Pinconning was just the connection point where the Huron Sub ties in with the Mackinac Sub. Is there more to it?

A good chunk of the MQT roster is slumbering on the north side of Grant for the weekend with a 45(ish) car northbound train at the Nelson’s crossing. 3391 leading, with a pair of yellow geeps, the B&P SD, and new arrival 3413 in the 5th position. Good location for roster shots right along M37. Also?...

The book “Trackside Around Detroit Downriver 1946-1976 with Emery Gulash” by Jerry A. Pinkepank has a great 4 page spread chronicling PRR operations to and through Carleton including the DT&I interchange there. There are also several photos of DT&I trains at Carleton Diamond although none with scene...

Re: White Cloud question
David I’m not sure how far back into history you are looking, but as you may know, White Cloud was once a junction town where the Grand Rapids-Traverse City line (today the MQT) crossed the Muskegon-Big Rapids line. White Cloud East was abandoned fairly early, and I’m not sure when exactly the White...

Thanks to the Clarke Library at CMU, a significant chunk of the Lake County Star has been digitized and is searchable online, including 1966, when passenger trains 25/26 did indeed run for the last time. Here’s a screenshot of the photo that accompanies the article: Lake County Star 11-03-1966 last ...

I take it then levers were in the depot itself to line movements at one point? Yes. https://www.michiganrailroads.com/stations-locations/103-kalamazoo-county-39/1104-vicksburg-mi [/quote] Yes, the operator in the depot controlled the diamond. But, it didn’t have a big interlocking machine as found ...

Per KenB's post 2/2021. NO spat between Conrail and USS. The DC contacted the NS and cut a deal to keep their people working... Thank you. If the steel comes from the NS, does it come to DC via the Boat Yard Line and over the 141 and Short Cut drawbridges? Also, on aerial maps you can see there is ...

It’s been quite some time since I’ve railfanned any part of the LSRC (other than a brief stint at Holly), but I’ll share what I know about locations. You may need to do a little legwork on train operating times. The Lake State wiki page on this site lists all of the symbols and customers across all ...
