Thanks Zack
You do a great job keeping things up to date and working propertly on here. Isn't it helpful to have all kinds of knowledge to fix problems when things like this happen? I try to back up copies of the information put on websites like the Chessie Chapter every now and then, in case something horrible...

C&O 4617
From Chessie Chapter, using compiled sources: Through July and August, this last C&O painted unit was primarily working train H710, the Woodville Local out of Walbridge Yard near Toledo, OH. As of August 25, this rare locomotive had migrated south and was seen at the Huntington, WV shops. It then pi...

So, how come it is that the one week I'm up there, all the interesting stuff like GP15-1's and GP30 Road Slugs decide to go elsewhere and I just see solid lashups of GP38-2s? HMMMMM?? http://groups.msn.com/chessiechapter/baldwinsub.msnw

Very cool BB!
The MAUMEE is one of the oldest Freighters sailing on the Great Lakes, having been built in 1929! It is an old Bradley Stone Fleet boat, (an affiliate of the US Steel company), and was sold to Grand River Navigation in 2001. During her years sailing for USS (until 2001), she was named CALCITE II. Th...

Probably the lime train
My guess is that the twin unit BNSF train you saw with the covered hoppers was the lime train, usually symboled K905, bound for Manistee. They generally run about once a week, and it may be any day including Sunday. All other road operation north from GR does not run on Sunday except around holidays...

Here's what I've observed
GENERALLY, the D711 (or D712 job, still can't tell if there is a noticable difference) from Manistee and D771 from Ludington will meet at Walhalla, and then D771 will continue with their power to Baldwin to meet the 704 Job. The Manistee power I believe then stays at Walhalla and then takes their pa...

Elkhart
I was down in Elkhart on Monday, the 4th of July, and there were 3-4 trains an hour...sometimes more. Seemed to be running as usual, for the road and Amtrak trains, but no locals. Nice to see your photos Scooter. Did you happen to make it inside the depot? It seems the NYC depot, owner and caretaker...

Recent C&O 4617 movements
As reported by the Chessie Chapter: April 9, 2005 found it back on the road leading train Q303 with C30-7 #7088 in South Charleston, WV and then under the C&O Cantilever signals at St. Albans, WV. Suddenly, #4617 was reported in Michigan at Oak Yard in Detroit, where Editor Mike got many photos on A...

Really nice to finally meet you on saturday, Zack. I believe D704 must call the dispatcher every time they change blocks along the Baldiwn Sub. I know there is a block change about a mile south of Baldwin depot, and another at the White Cloud "yard", and a few more as well. Good to hear they're gett...

Another Kzoo Report
4/19/2005 This is my finals week here at WMU and then I'm back in the Detroit area for another 4 months before heading over this way. Today I have no exams to I decided since the weather is gorgeous that I would spend the morning railfanning Kalamazoo, with BO Tower as my primary home base point. I ...

Kalamazoo Reports Continued
4/15/2005 I decided to get out of the dorm and away from the books and out into today's wonderful sunshine by heading to downtown Kalamazoo for a few hours to see some trains and get some fresh air. Unfortunately, I missed the bus I wanted to take, so I arrived there later then I wanted to; close to...

Recent Kalamazoo Reports
4/14/2005 NS 36E was going northbound at Gibson shortly before 7am this morning. 39J was switching cars at W. Bostford at that time. Amtrak 365, the Blue Water , was only about 25 minutes behind the clock today. Certainly a huge imporvement over the 4 hours and 20 minutes behind schedule yesterday! ...

Excellent
I wasn't even alive for any of those events, but thanks so much for sharing! Excellent to see some good big steam in-Michigan shots. One quick note for anyone else who was as confused as I - the photo of the GTW train on the bring near Muskegon is actually a mirror image of the correct way - the tra...

Nice photos Scott. Gotta love those old NYC signals to get in shots along the Water Level Route - especially that huge bridge there at Vickers. Is it easily accessable to get photos like yours? I try to get them in my photos farther west in Elkhart, I just posted a couple new ones in the "Users Subm...

CSX line
Hi Patrick. I'm not all that familiar with the lines up that way except the LSRC at bay city and northward, and the CSX main south of the yard there in Saginaw. You said the HESR is operating to Vassar on the old CSX line. Is this the one purchased in late Chessie/Early CSX days by the old HESR? Doe...

RCPHE4s
Hi Zach, nice night shots. I see that 1139 was with 9119 the MOW RC drone. Are any of the other old GP40 drones back in Grand Rapids? Last I heard they were down in florida or else paradeing back and forth between stanley in toledo and GR and no one knew what to do with them. Thanks for any updates.
