Thanks for the heads up. Too bad I didn't head out to Berea today. I could have caught this easily near the Olmsted Falls Depot just a couple miles west.
Story of my life. Day late and dollar short.

Re: Overpass Insight
Not much of a chance for RP.net IMO, for reasons already mentioned.
Give it a couple months until the bridge is finished, and then you can get the tracks, signals, and tower all unobstructed (I hope) at least until they put up fencing.

Bellevue Locomotive Shop
Spent a little while in Bellevue Wednesday morning. Couldn't seem to catch much traffic heading in the right direction for photography, but I did manage this shot of the loco shop pit. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=325832 Wonder what the object under the green tarp is? Also NS184 on t...

Re: Greenwich & New Castle Sub Pix
Sharp pictures Rich. Do you have another view of the covered hopper in the third picture? Do railroads ever use something other than a covered hopper as a buffer on ethanol trains :? Sorry. No other shot that shows the covered hopper any better than this one. Here's an ethanol train with a pair of ...

Greenwich & New Castle Sub Pix
Pretty much by accident I found myself on the New Castle Sub last evening. I caught Q353 at West Nova, and then I meandered around until I found myself at Greenwich. I caught a pair of westbound ethanol trains at Greenwich including K695 with 2 venerable old SD40-2 locomotives for power. Geez! I kno...

K695-06 on Monday
I got lucky Monday evening, just before sunset. K695-06 hit Berea with no light to spare!
Not too bad for ISO 1600.

Im getting the Bad Cropping Left and Right. http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=800803&key=0 IMO this shot is "heavy left", meaning that there is not much on the right side of the frame for the viewer to see besides blue sky and ballast. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u148/hacksaw412/...

Re: NW Ohio Sun
I've been using Sony Alpha cameras since 2007. First it was an Alpha 100 and now an Alpha 700. I have no regrets. These cameras help me amass over 600 accepted shots at RP.net, and I've made over $1000 selling photos taken with the 700, some railroaded related and also some stock shots of other subj...

Re: Did guy from England visit Fostoria yet?
There is a fellow from England that comes to the USA every summer. His name is Dave and he always makes a stop in Berea for a few days. He travels all over the place railfanning and I'm guessing he hits Fostoria. I got an email from him on 3/9/2010 and he intends to make the trip again this summer. ...

Re: Got Dinged Once Again
I think the image is waaaay oversharpened. A considerable amount of the degradation in the image is likely a result of this. As previously mentioned, the composition is the next thing to consider. Removing a good bit of the right side empty space will help, but I thik the RP. Net screeners will stil...

Re: Another Bad Cropping Reject
Hi Aaron, I think the image is rather unbalanced to the right. I would suggest cropping a good bit off of the left (maybe even a bit more than I cropped off) as well as a little from the top and bottom. Also, the image appears to be a bit oversaturated to the red. It also needs about 0.5 CW rotation...

Re: First Time At Bellevue Ohio
Thanks for the comments all! It was refreshing to get out away from Berea. I would do a lot more of that if I could, but finances and other personal circumstances do not make it very feasable these days. To me, any train in whatever location is better than no train at all. Gotta play the hand you're...

First Time At Bellevue Ohio
I made my first ever visit to Bellevue on the 24th of March. I spent most of my time cruising around getting to know the lay of the land so to speak. I did manage a few shots of the goings on in the yard off of the Route 4 bridge. Below are some links to 3 pix if anyone is interested. http://www.rai...

Re: Fixable??
Judging from the shadows it appears the train was sidelit. From my experience with the screeners at RP.net, even if you were to brighten the nose the other shadows would make it obvious. For example, it the sun were more behind you and able to cast better light on the nose then the bucket on the fro...

Re: Bad Cropping any suggestions?
Railpctures.net screeners don't like shots where the train is cut off by the edge of the photo itself. They much prefer to see the entire train as it fades off in the distance or is cut off inside the photo by buildings, trees, a curve, mountains, etc. Even though you did not actually crop the shot ...

Re: Contrast Advice
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=790587&key=0 Which way should I go with this one? Cody, I would say the image is a bit flat, and lacking punch. More contrast is the way to go. Something like this. . . http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u148/hacksaw412/Railfan%20Shots/3186_1268309928.j...
