In Murrica you can probably blame the ear bud manufacturer and sue them and win.

The vans 23/22k and 205/206 will use this connection instead of Cleveland.bluestreak81 wrote:Does this mean more traffic may be traveling on the NKP through western Cleveland suburbs?

Re: How busy was the B&O before the Conrail split?
Porter Ditch CAL.jpg Oh no big deal at all! What's interesting is how the CAL took the "hard road" out of Republic and ran along the cemetery and headed east arrow straight through Omar and over through Steuben to Rt. 61, where it then angled softly to North Fairfield, Fitchville, and New London. S...

I can't do all nighters anymore either. I'd be out by 2am.

Re: CSX B&O vs. NS Chicago Line Nighttime Activity
Best place east of Toledo is by far Oak Harbor. The police are more than happy to let you sit in the stone parking lot at the bridge. You'll easily average 3-4 an hour 7pm-7am.

Re: How busy was the B&O before the Conrail split?
I grew up in Tiffin right between Fostoria and Willard. I would say 25 a day was a good average number. Remember at that time we still had Amtrak service first the Broadway Limited and then the Three Rivers. The GTW turns were always interesting always with a caboose, and 89 foot high cube boxes. I...

Re: How busy was the B&O before the Conrail split?
Actually the EL didn't add that much traffic to the Fort Wayne Line on C-Day. It only added 8 down the C&AC from Warwick to Orrville and they were westbound: BRC-75, IHB-7, IHB-9, and TV-77. Eastbounds were NY-72, NY-74, BRC-76, and TV-98. There was a pair that terminated at Buckeye Yard and ran "al...

Re: NS Bellevue to Sandusky line
So how busy is the Norfolk Southern Sandusky line north of Bellevue always wondered that. I might take a railfanning trip to Sandusky next summer depending on how busy the line is. I know alot of the trains start or end their shifts in the massive Bellevue yard. So what is a day count of trains on ...

Re: How busy was the B&O before the Conrail split?
Another interesting thing to think about was railfanning at Attica Junction. The Sandusky District on NS was pretty awful and that coupled with the B&O, made Attica a fairly bad place to railfan. Compare that to today! Look at what the CR split did to traffic on each line and today, Attica Junction ...

Re: How busy was the B&O before the Conrail split?
The Fort Wayne Line a few months from late 1981 to 1982 was THE place east of Crestline. For that short time you still had some old EL traffic, Carrothers Branch traffic, all the original CR Fort Wayne Line traffic, and the Panhandle traffic being moved off and routed to the Crestline Connection. So...

Re: How busy was the B&O before the Conrail split?
West of Willard only about 12 each way. It was getting pretty bad. There wasn't anywhere near what volumes are today of course.BamaSubdivision94 wrote:Before 1999, what's a rough estimate of the train frequency on the old B&O (i.e. the Willard and Garrett Subs)?

Sounds right. If you really want to see it I would arrive no later than 5.
Re: NS 21Q
I would say 5-7pm to be absolutely safest. Could be slightly later at Holland but hopefully not.

CF&E/Fort Wayne Line Operations
I have recently been intensely observing the "west of Colsan" operations on the CF&E. Symbol 10E is very interesting to me. It arrives at Fort Wayne via the Wabash of course from the UP and I'm guessing most of the cars come from North Little Rock or even farther west judging by the auto parts box c...

Berea as far as volume. Much friendlier place for rail fans and 5 trains/hour round the clock. I've never averaged less.

Thanks. I remember when the Cleveland West dragger used to be at the 186 intermediate in CR days.
