Re: Could have Conrail survived?

Does CSX get any of the chemical or scrap metal traffic? In Detroit, CSX currently seems to have very little presence or interest in Conrail anymore, aside from the intermodal to and from Livernois, and a CSX Dispatcher controlling the Lincoln Secondary. One would need sit at Delray at night to obs...

Shareholders vote no to Ancora takeover of NS

https://www.trains.com/trn/news-reviews/news-wire/norfolk-southern-shareholders-back-ceo-alan-shaw-but-give-activist-investors-three-board-seats/ This is great news. If Boychuk and Barber ever got the controls of the company on their hands, NS would’ve fallen apart very quickly. They did however giv...

The NS heritage units getting new paint. Wow. Time flies. Will they all get new paint? Kind of surprised they didn't just become ubiquitous black NS when it was time for a paint refresh. They are, the PRR is next for the paint shops. So far, the Reading Lines, Virginian, Southern and Lackawanna hav...

Would it be possible to have someone here sketch on a present day satellite image roughly where all of that would’ve been?

Fascinating map though for sure.

Re: White Cloud question

David I’m not sure how far back into history you are looking, but as you may know, White Cloud was once a junction town where the Grand Rapids-Traverse City line (today the MQT) crossed the Muskegon-Big Rapids line. Wow. This I did not know. Would you happen to know where this junction would’ve bee...

There was also the Dow Special on Sundays and the empties back on Thursday. I also recall the occasional GR-Baldwin turn when needed. Not sure what they ran in PM days.
I heard about this train brought up by some people that live up that way. Where did it run to?

Re: East Jordan & Southern

Having spent parts of my summers in East Jordan for the 20 years I’ve been on this planet, that is so darn cool. Been trying to find some sort of footage or photos of the #6 doing it’s thing, as I drive by it every time I’m up there at least two or three times a day going places around town.

White Cloud question

Asking for my girlfriend who wants to know, but at it’s peak, how many trains would pass White Cloud a day? It’s obviously down to only a few trains a week, but given that the line ran (and still does run) to Grand Rapids, Baldwin and locations north of there (obviously abandoned), it had to have be...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - April 2024

For the Southeast Michigan railfans here, CSX L310 last night had one of the new GP40-3 rebuilds (without the spongebob squarecab) working it (number was 6567). This unit is one of only a few that I know of in service. Unsure how long it’s staying but it was definitely something neat.
